Book #7: Among the Wonderful
My goal is to read 50 books a year, so that is approximately 4.5 books a month. I should be up to book #11, but I am four behind. I will have to do some heavy duty reading to catch up. The last book I read, Among the Wonderful alternates between the tale of the French taxidermist and the giantess who live in the Museum that P.T. Barnum created in New York City in the 1850s. Before he was a big time circus owner, P.T. had a living museum filled with all kinds of interesting displays, including the human ones, a giantess, a Chinese giant, co-joined twins, etc. The book was ponderous. It didn't really discuss the sadness, the life style of the inhabitants the way I wanted to learn about them. I was disappointed in it, and it took me forever to read. At about page 150, I was lamenting that I had continued reading and now had no choice but to continue. Ultimately, I knew the ending because I was aware of Barnum's history, so I suspected how it would end.
The one great thing about finishing a book whether you enjoyed it or not, is that another one waits in the wings.
